DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racing racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the top-performing American woman open-wheel racing driver. The victory she won in the Indy Japan 300 in 2008 was her first major win. With the permission of her parents she quit highschool and moved to the United Kingdom in 1998 to pursue her career. Patrick raced in Formula Vauxhall, Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001. She raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races in 2002 with Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick raced in the Toyota Atlantic Series the following two years. Her best performance was when she finished third in championship standings for the 2004 season when she became the first woman to win a pole position in the series.She began her career in the IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005 and took three pole positions, which was equal to Tomas's record of poles in a rookie season. She was named the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She saw improvement throughout the following two seasons, racing with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and then Andretti Green Racing 2007. Patrick was sixth overall in the drivers' standings in 2008 after her Japan win. The following season she improved on this, and was fifth overall in the drivers' standings. Patrick also scored an all-time high of third at the Indianapolis 500, which was the top performance of any female racer at the event. Patrick's overall performance dipped during the year, but she did manage to place second on the oval track. After that, she left IndyCar in 2011 to focus on stock car racing full time.
