The group was not successful on the scene in the United States, but gained immense popularity in the world. Following the split of the group at the end of 1979 Ford embarked upon a profitable solo career in the field of metal. She started taking lessons in vocals. Her first solo release was 'Dancing on the Edge'. Her albums weren't very successful, so she disappeared for a couple of years. In 1988, Ford returned to the spotlight with the album that became a huge hit "Lita". the single "Kiss Me Deadly" and the ballad "Close My Eyes forever" have been hugely popular. Unfortunately, the success in her professional career was short and over a long period of time she was absent from the world of entertainment. The album "Black" album was released in 1995. Her 'Wicked Wonderland" album came out almost 15 years after. Her most recent album, Time Capsule was released in the year 2016. She was awarded The Certified Guitar Legend Award by Guitar Player Magazine.
